PostSubject: Sentra b13 NASA PTE Project - Goal for Spring 2011   Fri Jun 25, 2010 12:06 pm

It was a project started years ago and then left to sit (originally started for Spec SE-R and then the series was retired and so was the project for a while!)

Some general background:

The car started out as a 1994 Sentra E 1.6 2dr without sunroof from sunny phoenix AZ with 155k miles on the engine and chassis.

1st order of business was a conversion to SE-R and a very rusty crusty 1998 200sx SE-R was purchased for $1200 to steal many of the components for the conversion (engine, trans, ECU, wiring harness, power steering setup, etc.)

2nd was converting the rear drum brakes to proper SE-R rear discs

3rd was gutting and caging it for NASA spec

4th was this crazy supercharged thing for SE-R Extreme class (was running, etc.)

5th was removing the engine/stripping down the car to properly weld off a bunch of holes in the firewall from A/C removal, etc.

6th was redoing the driver side cage portion to have NASCAR style door bars instead of the original 'X' to make for easier entry/exit and safer for track use.

7th was redoing the front suspension in such a manner as to allow more negative camber

8th was gut it all out to get ready for full repaint (inside and out) --- which is where the project has stalled and we hope to resume this fall/winter once the race/track season has ended.

Plans for winter include:

1) Get it properly repainted
2) Start reinstalling everything using an ISIS System (www.isispower.com) since all the wiring has been removed right now anyway and is the company my husband works for.
3) Intall and NA SR20 motor with BC Stage 2 cams w/rebuilt b13 trans w/proper 5th gear kit
4) Reinstall everything else (seat, etc.) and get this puppy running!
5) Make sure everything is ready to pass inspection to get a 2011 LogBook Issued for NASA and Midwest Council
6) w2w race it with NASA and Midwest Council for the 2011 season!

....so hopefully it happens for 2011 and doesn't get postponed until 2012 but tiime will tell!

We are going to be using a motor that came out of a 200sx SE-R w/90k miles (car was from wisconsin and long gone to the rust gods) BTW with the only thing changed on it is the cams so it stays legal for PTE! (and ITA as well as an FYI)

okay.. it's been a really long time since I updated this thread (and long time since staring work on the car again) BUT there is some progress (however small there is some!)

NEW goal is to have it ready either for the June NASA Grattan event or at least by August Centra NASA Region event at MAM so it MIGHT even run at NASA Nationals (maybe, but that is still a big maybe!)

So what did get done?

Okay... remember, I said it is small!

BUT there was a small bar added to the cage for extra support (can you tell the horrible weld splooges of someone who doesn't normally weld? haha) and 2nd is welding in the attachments for the window net!
