PostSubject: VQ?   Sat Feb 20, 2010 9:20 pm

I have a chance to get a VQ for cheap if i want it. It has a rod knock so it would need a rebuild. I have been looking at what 99-SEL has been saying about his and i am not sure if it is worth it for what i want.

1. I dont have the fab skills or equipment to pull this off, i would need quite a bit of help the get the mounts made. Other than that the rest is just tedious things like wiring which is no issue for me.

2. Expensive. It would take me too long to get everything together.

3. I barely have time to work on my car as it is.

4. Space, i would need a bigger space to do this in, since it would be down for quite some time even after i get the parts.

5. VE so much easier and managable for a DD.

Any thoughts? Anyone else want it if i dont take it?

You've already found your answer.

If you say you don't have the money, time, or space, it's not even worth considering. VE FTW!

Ya, the more i think about it, the more i realize its not the right time. I would love to do a full caged drag car with a VQ but the above apply to that as well.

When i woke up this morning i forgot about it and that makes me realize i dont need it.

Well i went today and helped them do the swap and decided to take it. It is too nice to pass up. Once i figure out what is wrong with it i will decide what i am going to do with it. If i start this there will be no going back.

I will help with all the fab and I can weld up the mounts if you need it done. It will be a little tricky, but it will be bad ass.
Now on the other hand a VE would be a super simple swap with at about half the cost. So there are some options to think about.

NOW if you decide not to go with it, let me know. I will scoop the motor from you. I would like to do a VQ swap in my Spec V.

I was gonna say dont people make mount kits for spec v's? Arent the bays pretty similar? You may be able to use one of the mount kits for the vq spec v.

The spec v's are not bad. The only tricky thing is the wring and needing a consult tool, but I can do wiring and I have access to a consult tool(thanks DJ!). I am waiting to finish 2 projects and then I will think about the swap.

Yes there are swap kits available, but they are pretty expensive.
