| Case cracking is a common problem. Built tranny's cost money, as an example icer200sx is selling a SR16VE tranny that was built by JGY customs for $550 (cryo treating, shot peening, case welding) and they do have a reputation for overcharging, so you might be able to find a cheaper price for the work. I haven't heard of anywhere in the Madison that offers those services in-house, but I'm sure there are shops that know where to go for those services, you just have to ask around, and be open to shipping your tranny somewhere. |

| Get the mazworks 6 spd swap parts and find yourself a nice 6 spd box. Or get yourself a later year p11 trans or a b15 trans. They are all a hell of alot befier than our stock b13/b14 trans. Most people have been laying down pretty big #'s with very good reliability and almost no breakage issues. |

| I've heard bad stories about JGY. Haven't heard of any companies building trannies for our cars. Trannies are not cheap. B13 lsd tranny usually sells for $200 and up. B14 lsd tranny usually sells for $300 and up.
Mazworks 6 speed swap is probably one of the best setups going for our cars now. Not cheap. Especially if you're working with an '04-'06 spec v tranny(the better of the 2). But, probably worth it. I'm working on my 6 speed spec v tranny swap. It's going to take some time....
Got a P10 lsd tranny. Gears are shot. But, case is good. PM me if you're interested. |

| I may go with the 6spd when i break my trans. Remember you can also use a celica gts 6spd trans, tiberon 6 spd trans and a maxima 6 spd trans. The ratios and info are on the sr20 forum somewhere not sure on the link though. |

| stay far away from JGY.
FWIW, just get a b15 or p11 trans.
search on car-parts.com for 2000-2002 trannies. I found one in kenosha that said it was non-lsd and was really an lsd trans. got it for 400 bucks. you have to go look at it and see if it has the bulge.
It is very easy to convert from hydro to cable.
The kit that Mazworks sells is just the parts and not even donor trans. you'll have alot of cash tied up into that six speed that will just spin the wheels easier than already.
The only benefit, i think, is being able to run the bigger diameter clutch(250mm). |

| A 6 speed will suck, first and second gear will be almost worthless. Like doug said get a B15 trans or a P11 trans. |

| well im running a cable setup right now (stock) and idk. is there any way of hardening the case by heat treating it i work at a metal fab shop so i could heat treat it if that would work to harden the case. |

| I don't think heat treating (in the sense of hot temperatures) would strengthen anything, it might actually weaken it.
Here's something you might want to read through.

| you could "maybe" cryo treat the case, still not worth it IMHO. but with the b15/p11 trans the case is already somewhat reinforced., overall it's just a much better design...and shifts smoother.
Trust me, benchpressing "aka wreastling the input shaft splines into the friction plate splines" the b13 trans vs the b15 trans is a BIG difference, LOL. |
